- Our Mission
The Philippines
Capacity bulding and stakeholder empowerment initiatives
Supporting programme partners, Coral Cay Conservation, in the Philippines, we work to engage with local stakeholders who depend on marine ecosystem services to support their livelihoods and for subsistence purposes. Our support enables the empowerment of these stakeholders by providing training opportunities and access to marine conservation-focused education that builds capacity within impacted areas. A key output our support results in the training of national Filipinos in SCUBA diving and scientific data collection which forms as the catalyste for the establishment of localised conservation initiatives and national NGOs; protecting the Philippines' natural resources.
The Philippines
Raising awareness and inspiring the next generation of environmental advocates
In the Philippines, we support numerous educational and outreach programmes within Southern Leyte. Our support allows for conservation teams to engage with local communities, stakeholders and school students of all ages. The outreach programmes aim to build a framework that increases knowledge on sustainable use and the complex interactions found within coral reef systems, whilst inspiring change. These programmes have resulted in many local initiatives from large scale waste plastic collections to the generation of student-led environmental committess.
The Philippines
Establishing Marine Protected Areas to protect biodiversity and livelihoods
To date, we have supported in the establishment of over 15 small-scale locally-managed Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in Sogod Bay and Cablian Bay, Southern Leyte. The MPAs provide a sanctuary for coral reef fauna and flora, reducing and minimising anthropogenic impacts such as overfishing whilst promoting recovery of perturbed areas and increasing reillience to chronic impacts such as climate change. Whilst small in scale, these MPAs have recorded ecological, social and economic benefits to stakeholders, fishery actors and local communities.
Montserrat
Supporting marine and terrestrial resource appraisals for spatial management
Through the collection of marine bio-physical and terrestrial (tropical forest and coastal) data, we were able to support out partners, Coral Cay Conservation, to provide recommendations for the establishment of multiple spatial management intiatives on the small caribbean island of Montserrat. These efforts were in coordination with Montserration Government and aimed to conserve the rich nearshore environment whilst protecting the biodiveristy of the Soufrière Hills, including the endemic Montserrat Oriole (Icterus oberi).
Tanzania
Community-based projects supplying essential infrastructure to school students
We support The Voice School Trust in Tanzania alongside programme partners, Adventure Lifesigns, where teams work to expand the school's infrastrcutre and facilities whislt enaging with students through teaching, cultural exchanges and group activities. The key aim of the school is to promote a society where no one is marganilsed.
Nepal
Providing support to local schools, increasing access to education
Supporting our programme partners, Adventure Lifesigns and Narba Treks, we are able to provide opportunities to education by supporting construction-based projects at local schools. These projects are essential in ensuring a safe environment for children to learn whilst increasing opportunities for eduction by supplying resources. The projects we support are undertaken international expedition teams in coordination with local NGOs and other organsiations. Our support also provides resources for earthquake relief.
Zambia
Working with local communities to provide access to critical resources
Our programme partners, The Itala Foundation and Adventure Lifesigns, work with local schools to provide education for over a thousand children who, due to a variety of circumstances, are unable to attend local schools and therefore recieve no formal educaiton. Our suport provides resouces to local construction organisations to estbalish essential infrastructure including school toilet blocks, secutirty walls and building/classroom foundations.
Peru
Providing clearer paths to education for children with learning difficulties
Alongside the Yachay Wasi Early Education Center and Adventure Lifesigns, we support education for up to 45 children with learning difficulties, autism or those who do not suit mainstream schooling. Our support ensures continuity and imporvement of the school through the purchase of land to provide essential room for growth and sustainable own-growing whilst also supporting the estbalishment of a nursery for younger children and physchological support to families. Our support helps local communities benefit from a new, modern educational centre.
